Company poetry competition winners

by Admin

Congratulations to Dave Kemp and Daniel Leyshon on jointly winning first prize in our new Gloveman Annual PoetryCompetition. They both won £50 each for their poems which were based on the judges topic of a rubber tree. Below are their penned entries and you will discover why both were extremely well deserved.

The Rubber Tree by Dave Kemp

In the heavy shade beneath those limbs,
Stooping weary as a forlorn gull buffeted off course by the gale

She treads a calculated path amongst her orphans,
As they wait patient,
Standing to attention like Sentries guarding their posts.

The blade she flashes in that early dawn,
Cuts through the bark,
They bleed,
Yet not the rose red of the slaughtered goat,
But the white of a mountain glacier,
And fill the cups that she would never allow to run over.
Tending her brood like the maiden seeking out eggs in the henhouse,
She collects those precious globules in cups strapped like sporrans around their trunks.
Then home for tea.

The Last Rubber tree by Daniel Leyshon

After the mountain pass
Beyond the valley
There is a field grazed with the life of the Rubber Tree

"Keepenavaa! Keepenavaa! Keepenavaa!"
Spread the dreaded echoes of marbled men

Above the Rubber Tree
All clouds are scuttled
And the blue sky swallows all that surrounds it

Next to the Rubber tree
A guild of emerald green
Mirrored in their hundreds

A breeze fills the air
Filtered away
As the last Rubber Tree
Unbuckles for the working man.

Surf's up for Andrew in Iceland

by Admin

Some might say surfing is in their blood, but for some it's more than that - take our very own Andrew Douglas.

Andrew loves surfing so much that, along with some of his mates, they braved the cold waters of Iceland to indulge in their favourite past-time.

Please feel free to watch the video above and share as it's also being shared for a National Surf Magazine.

Nice one Andrew!

New warehouse opened in Pettistree

by Admin

Offering over 25,000 square foot of storage space and more than a 1000 racking slots, the newly aqcuired warehouse in Pettistree deals daily with customers orders. Located close to the international shipping port of Felixstowe, Pettistree was an obvious choice as a new base. Re-locating in ealy July last year, the warehouse became fully operational on 20th July. In the interim new staff were trained and orders were still despatched succesfully.

Now using a network of couriers all orders are desptached and labels produced with data direct via our Sage 200 System. Under the strict controls of warehouse manager Paul Beaumont all orders are picked and packed to a tight schedule. This currently allows all staff to work more efficiently in both the warehouse and in the sales office.

Formerly part of a garden nursery, the warehouse boasts innovative racking systems and allows for more storage. Following further heavy investment and with the additon of new staff at our Head Office in Redruth, as well as the promotion of Polly Timmins to Group Logistics Manager, our logistics department and warehouse are operating more effectively.

New eco office and warehouse extend operations

by Admin

Thanks to partial European Regional Development Funding, under the Convergence Programme for Cornwall and The Isles of Scilly, Gloveman Supplies Ltd (GSL) along with their sister company Nicholson's, have extended their operations to an ‘Eco’ state of the art office and warehousing unit on Treleigh Park, Redruth.

Just a few hundred yards from their head office location at Vision House, GSL hope to further grow their customer base in Devon and Cornwall by filling the groups 9,000 sq.ft warehouse with more price driven stock. They will also be sharing this facility with another group company, World of Camping, who are also just yards away.

The launch of the four new units on Treleigh Park, constructed by HG Sites with the assistance of RJM Property and Development Consultants Ltd, took place on Thursday 11th September. It saw the head of Cornwall Council John Pollard and building project manager Shaun Hunt both presenting to various local business leaders. They outlined the values of the build and its ecological benefits. The new office and warehousing units will house businesses that meet a specified criteria – the same ones allowing Nicholson’s to become the first tenants.

Mike Peck, managing director of GSL, is excited about the growth which ultimately lead to the lease of the new building and the prospects it presents. “We are delighted with how the build has been finalised and it has allowed GSL and Nicholson’s to look towards a stronger trading future” he said. “The decision to extend operations was inevitable as we're rapidly running out of space month on month. Malcolm Randall of found the development for us and with his help and advice throughout the transition we have been extremely fortunate in obtaining Unit 1.”

He added “Location was important to us as we currently have the right staff across the group. They have helped grow both businesses so to extend operations too far afield could have been very unproductive. Unit 1 is tailored specifically for our needs and we are delighted to be the first tenants.
